BROCKTON, Mass. — Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker got his booster on Friday.

“If you’re eligible for a booster – get a booster,” said Gov. Charlie Baker.

He visited the Shaw’s Center in Brockton which is a high-volume booster site. The Governor added that getting a shot is the best way to protect yourself and others from covid…

“But the science on this is clear… vaccines do help people from getting very sick from this virus and the booster provides an extra layer of protection,” said Gov. Baker

In Worcester UMass Memorial has run out of ICU beds because of an unprecedented rise in patients.

“It’s a combination of covid and non-covid patients we are seeing in our hospitals,” said Dr. Andrew Karson who is the Chief Medical Officer at UMass Memorial.

And with many other hospitals nearing capacity Gov. Baker said if everyone got the shot it would greatly ease that burden.

Baker said, “If all the folks who were unvaccinated got vaccinated it would drop our hospitalization rate by 50%.”

The Lt. Gov. and Brockton’s Mayor also got the booster.

“The best gift going into the holiday season to give yourself and your loved ones are to get the vaccine… simple as that,” said Robert Sullivan who is Mayor of Brockton.

The Lt. Gov. added it’ll make it safer to be with family over the holidays.

“Getting your booster will be the most effective way to ensure max protection from Covid 19. This will help us keep our schools open, our economy moving, and let our families enjoy the holidays together,” said Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito.

Gov. Baker also says there are more than one thousand locations to get a booster across the state and there are plans to open more high volume centers like the Shaw’s Center in Brockton.
