BOSTON — As COVID-19 infections soar in many regions of the nation, parents of school children not yet eligible continue to wonder when a vaccine will be approved for their kids. Two doctors familiar with research and development in vaccine development say late next month the country could have an approved vaccine for kids 5-11.

Dr. James Versalovic, a Pathologist-in-Chief at Texas Children’s Hospital helping run children’s clinical trials, told CNN that October is the goal.

“You could potentially have a vaccine available to children 5-11 by Halloween,” said Dr. Scott Gottlieb on CBS’ Face the Nation. Gottlieb is a former Food and Drug Administration commissioner who sits on Pfizer’s board.

For parents trying to get their children under 12 vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine, the FDA has said to be patient and added that the dosage may not be the same.

Gottlieb added that Pfizer could also have all the data it needs on children 2-5 by the end of September.
