CAPE COD, Mass. — Some people may be nervous about visiting a hair salon due to safety concerns caused by the coronavirus pandemic, even though there are strict regulations.
But, a hairdresser on Cape Cod is putting a lot of her clients at ease with her new curbside service.
Heidi Fougere is busy cutting hair inside her new salon, but it isn’t an ordinary establishment.

“They come in and their first words are, wow, this is gorgeous and I don’t even feel like I’m in a trailer, so it’s pretty cool,” Fougere said.
The Harwich hairdresser just launched a mini salon on wheels called Curb Hair Studio.
Fougere tows her 24-foot trailer all over the Cape and often parks it right in a client’s driveway.
“I would say the males get more of a kick out of it. Some males are very scared and I get it. I’m not trying to be sexist or anything, but they’re like ‘oh my, God’ here comes this short little girl and she has a 24-foot trailer behind her,” she said.

With 17 years of experience as a hairdresser, Fougere said she started the mobile salon because she needed to get back to work, but couldn’t risk being exposed to COVID-19 since one of her six children has health problems.
“I can air out the entire trailer in between from going house to house just by opening the windows. I would say you can’t get any more safe than this,” Fougere said.
Fougere and her husband stripped a toy hauler and converted it into the mobile salon. It’s fully operational with heat, air conditioning, plumbing, and a U-V air filter.
“It’s nice to hear the clients saying you know I haven’t had my haircut in 9 months, haven’t had my haircut in a year, I haven’t had a good haircut. This is safe, I don’t have to worry and it’s just so good,” she said.

Fougere said the Massachusetts Board of Cosmetology has inspected her mobile hair studio and that it’s fully licensed and insured.
