CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A female jogger tells Cambridge police that she was assaulted by a man while she was running along the Charles River Tuesday night.

Now, students at Harvard University are being reminded to be aware of their surroundings.
Harvard police said the attack occurred around midnight Tuesday.

They said the woman, who is a Harvard student, was running along the Charles River on Memorial Drive near Western Avenue when she was grabbed from behind by an unknown man.

That’s when she reportedly used pepper spray to try and fight back. She was able to get away and ran to the river houses, which are buildings where Harvard undergraduates live.

Fortunately, she was not injured.

Massachusetts State Police are now investigating and they’re reviewing all the surveillance footage in the area.

Police said the attack seemed to be unavoidable. They said the victim wasn’t distracted and was approached from behind, and again urged people to be aware of what’s taking place around them.
