HANSON, Mass. — The Hanson Police Department say a driver will not face any charges or citations after a child fell out of a moving vehicle Monday morning.
At approximately 10 a.m., as the vehicle turned onto Liberty Street from Route 58, a small child opened the back driver’s side door and fell out onto the road.
After falling, the child stood and ran towards the vehicle.
The driver of the white midsize crossover SUV pulled over and ran towards the child to bring them back to the car. The driver remained on scene for a short time before driving away.
The Hanson Police Department was asking for help identifying the driver and child.
“We want to ensure the safety and well-being of the child, as well as determine how this event happened. Thankfully it appears that the child may not have been seriously injured, but we want to make sure and we would like to speak with the driver," said Hanson Police Chief Michael Miksch.
On Tuesday night, Hanson Police say the driver, who is the child’s caregiver, contacted them to tell them the child was unharmed. She explained to police the child had been strapped into a car seat but unbuckled and “opened the door before the autolock feature engaged in the vehicle.”
“We were glad to find out that the child was okay and it appears that this incident was accidental,” Miksch said.
The driver won’t face any charges or citations but the Department of Children and Families has been notified.
