BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Boston police are investigating a targeted shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon in Mission Hill.
According to police, a man in his 20s was shot in the rear parking lot of the Stop & Shop on Tremont Street around noon. The man was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital, where he died.
"We heard seven gunshots and we live on the second story of this building and we didn't really think anything of it," said Isabel Bree, who lives in Mission Hill.
Police said the victim was targeted and the suspect ran south through Mission Hill to get away. Officers searched backyards, but haven't captured him. He is described as a black male wearing a sweatshirt.
Several nearby schools were put into safe mode for a short amount of time immediately after the shooting was reported. Mass College oi Pharmacy students that live in the area said the school sent out a community alert.
"It's troubling. Unfortunately way too many shootings but when it happens in broad daylight with young kids here and the elderly people going about their days business its more brazen," said Boston Police Commissioner William Evans.
Police said they don't believe the shooting has specific ties to the community.
