PLYMOUTH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) - A man charged with the brutal murder of a Marshfield man appeared in court Monday.
Career criminal James Ferguson, 45 appeared in Plymouth District Court for the Sept. 16 murder of Robert McKenna.
The district attorney says Ferguson has a violent record, dating back to 1986.
“It’s disturbing somebody has that sort of record they are out and about in our community. It appears this individual was involved in the system heavily. He was doing life on the installment plan,” said District Attorney Tom Cruz.
At the arraignment, prosecutors released eye opening new details about the murder. McKenna’s friend found his body on the kitchen floor wearing only his underwear. Blood was trailed throughout the house, and a dented green frying pan was found next to his body. McKenna suffered cuts to hands and back of his head.

Authorities say foot impressions in the house reveal two other people may be involved in the case. Detectives believe one of those people is a woman based on the size of the footprints.
Prosecutors say witnesses tell them McKenna grew marijuana in his basement and that he may have been addicted to heroin.
McKenna's friend said, "He was an unconventional guy, he did march to the beat of his own drum and he, he loved things that were exciting."
Police say McKenna owned an AK47 and an AR15, and both are now missing from the home.
“There are two serious assault rifles that are missing. I’m concerned about that. I want them back. We want them back. We want to know who the other two people were who were with him in the house, and we are going to follow the evidence and it’s going to take us to who they are,” said Marshfield police chief Phillip Tavares.
