WALTHAM, Mass. — It was a mad dash for the essentials at local grocery stores Wednesday.
Shoppers clearing shelves ahead of the first nor'easter of the year.
There was minimal parking and barely enough carts to go around at the Waltham Market Basket. And then when it came to the “essentials” - milk and bread – the shelves were bare by the end of the evening.
“Well, I was going get bread and milk. But there’s no bread or milk,” said another shopper.
“I’ve got a gallon of milk because milk is an essential,” said one grocery-goer.
Managers adjusted schedules to make sure extra employees are here, consistently restocking shelves on a Wednesday that looks more like a weekend.
“It’s the craziest I’ve ever seen it, this place. Even on weekends, it’s not this full,” said another shopper.
If you didn't happen to get to a grocery store and your cabinet is bare, there are several restaurants in the Boston metro with their doors open.
