ALBANY, Ga. (MyFoxBoston.com) — A young woman who took an abortion pill, resulting in the death of her fetus of 5-1/2 months, has been charged with murder in Georgia.
The arrest stunned abortion rights opponents and advocates alike.
Kenlissia Jones, 23, of Albany, Ga., was ordered held without bond on charges of murder and possession of a dangerous drug.
District Attorney Greg Edwards indicated he might send the case to a grand jury.
According to a local report, Jones reportedly took a drug called Cytotec that she bought online from Canada, then delivered the male fetus in a car as a neighbor drove her to a hospital. The newborn died a short time later.
Authorities said the Associated Press would have to request the police report on Jones' arrest in writing under the state's open records act.
