TEMPLETON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- The Gardner Fire Chief remains hospitalized Saturday after being injured while battling a fire in Templeton the day before.
Chief Richard Ares was working at a house fire on North Main Street Friday when he fell eight feet off a deck, according to witnesses and the Templeton fire chief. He was rushed to UMass Memorial Medical Center with a concussion and back injury.
"He went of the edge of the deck down to a paved driveway that went beside the house," Templeton Fire Chief Ray Laporte said.
An EMT worker was also transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
The homeowner is okay after the fire, but one dog was trapped inside and did not make it out. The fire was believed to be started accidentally, official say.
As of Saturday, Ares was still in the hospital and listed in stable condition.
