Former Deerfield Academy faculty member admits to sexual contact with student

(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Deerfield Academy is conducting an investigation into the activity of a former faculty member who admitted to having sexual contact with a student in the 1980s.

According to a letter sent home by the President of the Board of Trustees and the Head of School, a former student told Deerfield Academy administrators that he had sexual contact with Peter Hindle, who was a faculty member between 1956 and 2000, in the 1980s.

As a result, the school has hired an independent law firm to assist in an investigation into Hindle's years at the school.

Anyone who may have been affected personally or who may have pertinent information regarding the investigation is asked to contact the school at atmcurtis@deerfield.edu or 413-774-1425.

"Although the reported behavior occurred many years ago, Deerfield Academy is taking the situation very seriously. Please rest assured that we have a zero tolerance policy regarding inappropriate teacher-student relationships of any kind, and this is regularly communicated to faculty and staff…Meaningful relationships between faculty and students define our community, but those relationships must be anchored in our core values--and first among them is the safety and welfare of every student," the letter read.

The school psychologist is also being made available.
