Former candidate for Mass. Governor Christy Mihos dies at 67

BOSTON — Former gubernatorial candidate and convenience store mogul Christy Mihos has died of cancer at the age of 67.

The Cape Cod Times reports he passed away on Saturday while in hospice care in Florida.

His sister said doctors told him last month he had pancreatic cancer and it had spread to his liver and bladder.

Mihos first entered the spotlight in the early 2000's as chairman of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, when he predicted the Big Dig would cost taxpayers billions more than planned because of corruption and mismanagement.

He then unsuccessfully ran for Governor of Massachusetts in 2006 and 2010.
