Flood waters force Worcester DPW to close roads

WORCESTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) - By 9 a.m. Wednesday morning the first road closures in Worcester went into effect as several inches of rain fell.

Southgate Street was closed after several feet of water collected under a bridge.

One driver was caught in the middle as her vehicle filled with water. She said she misjudged the depth of the water.

A child was also in the car at the time.

DPW workers said because of the volume of rain water, some sewers began to flood in the area as well, creating an unsafe mix of untreated sewage and rain water.

Police and other emergency responders are warning drivers to turn around and not drive through water that could be too deep.
