NEW YORK -- Federal prosecutors in New York filed terrorism charges against bike path attack suspect Sayfullo Saipov.
Police say 29-year-old Saipov rented a truck from Home Depot and intentionally onto a bike path and drove for several blocks.
Eight people were killed, and at least a dozen injured. One of those who was injured is an Argentine man living in Newton who had been in New York for a reunion with friends.
Saipov appeared in federal court after the charges were announced. According to an Associated Press reporter in the courtroom, Saipov was in a wheelchair, handcuffed with his feet shackled to face terrorism charges.
Investigators say Saipov came to the United States from Uzbekistan in 2010 and no group immediately took credit for the attack, but police said they found evidence that appeared to connect Saipov to ISIS.
The FBI also announced Wednesday evening a second person was wanted for questioning in relation to the attack, but they have since said that person is no longer being sought.
