BROCKTON, Mass. - Two Brewster ambulance EMTs and a local asphalt paving company teamed up to help a local couple and build them a new driveway.
It all began when Brewster ambulance EMTs Michelle Ray and Brieann Bateson wanted to do more for their patient who gets dialysis twice a week. They know first hand how treacherous it was to reel a stretcher through the driveway.
At first, Michelle had thought about putting some money aside or launching a fundraiser to help out the Swansons, so she posted to a Facebook group asking for recommendations for someone for the job.
Genevieve Coughlin works for Driveways by Heap, a company owned by Bob Heap.
"And the post asked 'does anyone have a husband who does paving' so I said, 'I'm not a husband, but I do paving and I would like to try to help you,'" said Coughlin.
The original Facebook was just asking for someone to do the work at a more affordable rate, but Driveways By Heap wanted to go one step further. Bob and his team quickly decided to do the $2,200 job for free.

"We were just trying to do something nice, and I think the world today needs some of these 'paving' it, paying it forward feel good stories," said Coughlin. "There's so much discourse and strife in the world right now."
What may seem like just paving a driveway is actually so much more for the Swansons.
"I found out that they were going to do this to us, I couldn't believe it - I'm just overwhelmed," said Sherry Swanson.
The Swansons said the new driveway will make a world of a difference.
"We're absolutely ecstatic over the whole situation - it's a big lift to us, gives us a big lift," said Richard Swanson.
They say they are overwhelmed by the generosity and the final product.
