BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley has announced that Edwin Alemany will be charged with murder in the death of Amy Lord.
The announcement was made at an 11:30 a.m. press conference Thursday. Conley said recent evidence emerged that had linked Alemany to Lord's killing.
Alemany, 28, had previously been called a "person of interest" in Lord's death. He was arrested in connection with two attacks in South Boston that happened within 24 hours of Lord's killing.
Police said Lord, a 24-year-old Bentley University graduate who was living in South Boston, was kidnapped on July 23 and was taken to five banks before she was killed. A bicyclist discovered her body later that day at the Stony Brook Reservation.
A judge ruled last week that Alemany was unfit for arraignment and sent him to Bridgewater State Hospital for psychiatric observation. Alemany's attorney, James Greenberg, said Alemany was distraught.
Conley said Alemany would be charged with murder and a warrant would be issued for his arrest. The case against Alemany will be presented to a grand jury, Conley said.
