CANTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – The so-called Dunkin' Donuts robber has been caught.
Canton Police, along with Boston Police, the FBI and NORPAC Detectives, said they had arrested Isaiah Murphy, 23, of Dedham, in a rash of more than 20 armed robberies at Dunkin' Donuts locations in the greater Boston area.
Murphy used a gun, and sometimes a knife, during the two dozen robberies and his face was usually covered. He was mostly able to get away with a little cash.
Investigators said they found evidence connecting Murphy to many of the robberies at his home in Dedham.
He was arrested at about 2:40 p.m. Tuesday on two counts of armed robbery. Additional charges may be added. He will appear in Stoughton District Court Wednesday. Police said the arrest came as a result of a months-long investigation.
Police said they believe Murphy was once a Dunkin' Donuts employee, and by watching the surveillance video they were able to tell that he knew how to work the register and how the store operated.
Marvin Valasquez was shocked to learn that his upstairs neighbor was labeled as the Dunkin' Donuts serial robber.
"I'm surprised like everyone else around here. I've been living here seven or eight years now, he and his mother live upstairs. I seriously couldn't believe it when it was on the news," he said.
