CANTON, Mass. — A 28-year-old Randolph man received serious injuries in a crash on a highway on-ramp early Thursday morning.
Massachusetts State Police said they received reports of the single-vehicle crash on the ramp from Interstate 95 north to Route 128 north in Canton just before 1:30 a.m.
The driver’s left arm had been amputated in the crash, and emergency crews were able to apply a tourniquet to him before being brought to Boston Medical Center.
The car’s passenger, a 23-year-old Randolph woman, was not injured in the crash.
Crews were able to locate the driver’s arm and it was also brought to Boston Medical Center.
State police said the investigation showed the driver was heading north on I-95 onto the ramp to Route 128 north when, for reasons that are still unknown, the driver failed to negotiate the curve and drove off the left edge of the road onto the grass shoulder.
The car then hit a guardrail, traveled back across the road and hit another guardrail along the right side of the road.
The scene was cleared around 4 a.m.
State police said the investigation is ongoing and no other information was immediately available.
