WOBURN, Mass. — The driver found guilty of motor vehicle homicide and operating a motor vehicle to endanger in connection to the fatal crash at Newton's Sweet Tomatoes restaurant has been sentenced.
Brad Casler was found guilty of the crash that killed Gregory Morin and Eleanor Miele when his SUV slammed into the pizza shop in March 2016. He was in jail for three weeks while awaiting sentencing.
A judge sentenced Casler to 4 years in prison for the deadly crash and 15 years probation.
Greg Morin's widow Erica took the stand during the sentencing hearing, telling the judge how her life has changed since the crash.
On Tuesday, a judge listened to impact statements and sentencing recommendations before taking a recess to review.
Tom Desmond, brother of Eleanor Miele, spoke on behalf of their family and told the judge Miele was on her way to her church to make Easter baskets for underprivileged children when she was killed.
Casler's longtime friend and his brother spoke on Tuesday where they expressed their concern that a prison sentence would have on Brad's health.
Casler himself also took the stand and spoke on the "emotional scars" that will never leave him. Casler then said he wants to work on legislation and advocate for state restrictions against drivers with multiple sclerosis.
