Driver dies after car goes airborne off I-495 ramp in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Mass. — A man died after the car he was driving went airborne off a ramp to Interstate 495 early Wednesday, Massachusetts State Police spokesman David Procopio confirmed.

State police responded to a report of a car that had rolled off the Marston Street exit ramp in Lawrence as a driver negotiated the turn just before 3 a.m., Procopio said.

The driver, who was found dead in the overturned car, was the sole occupant of the single-car crash, Procopio said.

Ramps from Marston Street to the lower deck of Merrimac Street on 495 south were closed for a few hours after the crash.

MSP said in a news release that a preliminary investigation suggests the 56-year-old driver of a 2006 Pontiac Solstice lost control of the car. His name has not yet been released.
