EAST BROOKFIELD, Mass. — A candlelight vigil was held on Sunday evening in honor of a mother and nurse who was killed in a hit and run crash in East Brookfield.

Dozens of people gathered and offered each other consolation to the devastating loss of the woman who was killed just five weeks ago.

Family and friends of Lisa Germain filled Leicester Common not only to mourn their loss but also to ask for answers about the case as police are still searching for the culprit.

Earlier this week, however, police released new information on the case that they hope will bring closure to the family.

"I just don't feel like we can just let it go and forget her, I feel like time is going by and no one is coming forward, and the wound is still open," said Alexandra Xanthopoulos, a friend.

Germain was killed by a hit and run driver as she was crossing the street on Route 9 in East Brookfield.

Germain's daughter is still in shock and says she cannot forget the moment she found out her mother was dead.

"Shock, I remember saying 'mom, wake up.' I know she's not sleeping, but I'm also her baby, I just wanted my mom," said Erica Paradis. "We were best friends."

The family is hopeful the recent release of the picture of the driver's car will help bring justice.

"This person, whoever they are, they're going to be having dinner with their family on the holidays, and there's a girl up there who's not going to have her mom," said Gladi Dalterio, the victim's partner.

"I need to know what happened, I need to know why they left, and then they need to own to what they did," said Paradis.

East Brookfield Police are working with Mass State Police on this investigation.
