Doug Flutie thankful for prayers & support

(MyFoxBoston.com) -- Doug Flutie expressed his gratitude for the condolences and prayers Saturday, days after both of his parents suddenly passed away.

He shared information his parents' obituaries on Facebook and said, "Just wanted to express my sincere appreciation for all your condolences and prayers, they are so appreciated."

On Wednesday, Flutie's father passed away of a heart attack. Hours later, his mother had a sudden heart attack and died as well. Flutie wrote on Facebook, "They say you can die of a broken heart. I believe that." Before the game between Boston College and Notre Dame started Saturday night, Flutie, who is announcing the game, mentioned his parents.

"Mom and Dad wanted me to do this game. The entire family circled this date on their calendars when it was announced. Some of the happiest memories of my parents lives were watching their sons and grandsons play Boston College football," said Flutie.

The funeral for Richard and Joan Flutie will be Nov. 23 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Florida. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism.
