Divorce rates plunge to 35 year low

Divorce rates in the Untied States have hit a 35-year low, according to new data.

Data shows that there were 16.9 divorces per 1000 married women in 2015. The highest divorce rate among married women was in the early 1980s at 22.8 per 1000 married women.

Washington, DC has the highest divorce rate, with nearly 30 marriages per 1,000 ending in Divorce. Hawaiii has the lowest, with 11.1 per 1000 ending in divorce.

In Massachusetts, the divorce rate was 16.8 per 1000 and in New Hampshire 16.5

It's hard to pinpoint what's exactly happening, but factors could include an aging population, changing gender roles and the fact millennials are getting married later.

Marriage rates have remained stable, with about 32 marriages for every 1,000 unmarried woman 15 years or older.

The data is from the National Center for Family and Marriage Research at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
