Debris from bridge falls onto Commuter Rail tracks near South Station

BOSTON -- Debris from the Albany Street bridge in Boston's South End has fallen onto the railroad tracks near South Station.

Photos show part of the stone facade underneath the the bridge collapsing onto the tracks.

Transit Police confirmed the damage in a statement to Boston 25 News.

Several Commuter Rail trains in to and out of South Station have been delayed due to the damage.

"We are confident that the bridge is structurally sound, however in an abundance of caution the engineers are going to check it out.," MBTA Police said.

Amtrak trains were also impacted, with trains all throughout southern New England delayed during repairs. High-speed trains will also be traveling at lower speeds through the area.
