PLAINVILLE, Mass. — A 51-year-old Plainville woman was found stabbed to death late Thursday night and her 21-year-old son is accused of killing her, according to Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey and Plainville Police Chief James Alfred.
Police were called to 37 Landau Rd. around 10:14 p.m. for an apparent homicide and found 51-year-old Carlyn D. Murphy dead from stab wounds, the district attorney’s office said in a news release.
The woman’s son, 21-year-old Sean Murphy, who lived at the home with his mother, was arrested by Plainville and State Police detectives overnight and is accused of killing her, the DA’s office said.
Sean Murphy was arraigned on a murder charge in Wrentham District Court Friday morning where he was ordered held without bail.
The home on Landau Road was surrounded in crime scene tape overnight and detectives were seen inside, through an open garage door.
Court documents say Carlyn Murphy's body was found on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds after getting a 911 call from Carlyn's husband Patrick Murphy. He told police he believed his son did it.
In court Friday, Murphy told police he was shopping with his father in Mansfield then went home to kill his mother. He told police he took a knife from the butcher block, hid it behind his back so she wouldn't see, and stabbed her.
Later, Foxborough Police found Murphy's vehicle at Patriot Place. When he was frisked, they allegedly discovered another knife.
Carlyn's employer Medtronic told Boston 25 News, "Carlyn Murphy was a Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist at Medtronic, based in Mansfield, MA. We are shocked and saddened by the news of her passing and extend our deepest sympathies to her family. She and her family remain in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
Sean Murphy will be back in court on Nov. 25 for a probable cause hearing.
