BOSTON — A broken water main in Beacon Hill sent water gushing down the street early Friday morning, flooding nearby businesses and roads.
The water has since been shut off, but by the time that occurred the damage had already been done.
Some basements were flooded because of the gushing water, but no injuries were reported.
Rocks, mud and dirt littered the area of Charles and Revere streets, and even made it down to Cambridge Street.
The road was closed to traffic while crews were making repairs, and even pedestrians were prevented from walking in certain parts of the affected area.
“My wife actually turned on the TV, and could see from (Boston 25 News cameras) that water was gushing into our basement,” the husband of a Beacon Hill business owner said. “She was a little panicked sitting at home as I was flying in on the Mass Pike.”
Most of the store’s inventory did stay dry.
It's unknown what caused to large water main break, or how long it would take to complete repairs.
