SALEM, N.H. — Crews in Salem, New Hampshire are working to contain a fire.

Salem Police tweeted Wednesday morning that firefighters responded to a report of a fire at the China Star restaurant on Main Street.

There were also a total of 10 apartments both in the back and above the restaurant that were destroyed in the fire.

Currently, Route 28 north is shut down at the post office, Route 28 south is shut down at Willow Street and Main Street is closed at Pleasant Street and at Millville Street. Power is also being turned off on Main Street near Depot. The temporary power shut-off affects about 1,000 customers in the area.

Boston 25 News Reporter Joy Dumandan was at the scene and said two firefighters were taken to a local hospital for precautionary measures. One of those firefighters called for a Mayday as the conditions inside were deteriorating quickly. Everyone was accounted for and made it out of the building, according to police and firefighters.

Officials have not yet confirmed what started the fire, but the investigation is under way and will be for some time.

Police say firefighters will be at the scene for several hours and drivers should avoid the area.
