Credit card debt in U.S. hits all-time high of $1 trillion, says study

Americans owe more than $1 trillion in credit card debt, according to a new study by WalletHub.

Debt hasn't been this high since before the market crash in 2008.

The average credit card debt per household as of the fourth quarter in 2017 was $8,600. That is at least $138 high than what WalletHub says is sustainable.

For those who have high credit card debt, experts say to start repaying the most expensive debt first and making the minimum payment on the rest.
