METHUEN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- City councilors at a local high school shut down a proposal to renovate the school's stadium.
The plan included bathroom renovations, turf installation, girls locker rooms, and handicap access at Nicholson stadium.
The facility is the high school's club house and is used for the football and soccer teams. It was originally built in 1938 and has never been updated.
Female student athletes say they have to make special accommodations to change for games because they have no private space at the field.
"Most girls have to go in their own cars to change," said Jamie Carter, a freshman soccer player.
City councilors say the city has money to move forward with new locker rooms and handicap access, but parents and students say they want all or nothing.
"I am for the project, I believe it should be done in phases," explained George Kazanjian, a city councilor.
The matter will be discussed again in a meeting on Monday.
