Columbia Gas: Brockton facility safe despite smell of gas

BROCKTON, Mass. — Brockton firefighters are monitoring a Columbia Gas facility on Oak Hill Way after plow truck hit a small pipe causing an odor of gas Sunday.

“While customers may smell an odor of gas, the area is safe,” Columbia Gas of Massachusetts said in a statement.

The small pipe, which is used for maintenance purposes, suffered minor damage. The utility will replace the pipe later this week.

Columbia Gas doesn’t expect an interruption of service to customers at this time.

As a precaution, nearby Commuter Rail service was shut down, but has since resumed.
