College football player accused of attacking couple outside Lowell bar

LOWELL, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) - A Dean College football player was held without bail after allegations that he attacked a woman and her husband outside of a Lowell bar early Sunday morning.

Police said 20-year-old Callen Vail punched Danielle Faulkner in the face and knocked her husband to the ground before kicking him.

“We're just heartbroken. They came this close to several bones just broken, all on her. Just half an inch to her temple,” Faulkner’s mother Cathy Hebert said.

The attack happened outside the Old Worthen House, at about 12:30 Sunday morning.

According to a police report a verbal confrontation turned violent, that’s when police allege Vail became violent.

Faulkner’s husband remains hospitalized with bleeding on the brain.

The victim's family tells me, she identified Vail as the one who attacked both of them.

“My daughter only seen the guy that hit her, kicking her husband,” Faulkner’s father said.

Vail's attorney said his client has a clean record and that he's a football player at Dean College.

He said there are two sides to this story.

“Something was going on in there, I just don’t know what the facts are presently. I’ve been given the police report, I’ve spoken to my client; I’ve spoken to some of the witnesses but not all. Before we give our version of the events I want to make sure I understand everybody’s point of view, There are two sides to every story,” defense attorney Marty Kane said.

Vail was held without bail after his court appearance. He is charged with assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (foot).
