BOSTON — In the shadows of the new Encore Boston Harbor Casino construction, work is already underway to get people to and from the casino.
Boston Boatworks is tasked with building three 40-foot boats that will shuttle people to and from Encore.

"This is a pretty big project. Building three of the exact same boats is something that's a little different for us," Drew Plominski, with Boston Boatworks, said.
They'll cost the casino millions of dollars, but eventually they will care 35 people at a time to and from the casino across Boston Harbor. %

Every week, the U.S. Coast Guard shows up to oversee production of the boats. And it's much more than just a stamp of approval.
"We're looking at the equipment, life saving and firefighting equipment," Coast Guard Lt. Katie Williams explained. "We're looking for structure, making sure there's no cracks and the boat will actually float when it goes in the water."
It's an unusual task that Boston Boatworks welcomes, despite being the only boating manufacturer in the city.
"We're excited to jump onto the challenge for sure," Plominski said. "There's some big technical challenges and some really great things for our production team to get to do -- something a little different than what we normally do."%

Once those boats leave the building facility, they will head outside to be tested in the water in April.
