BOSTON — A 21-year-old woman lying in a hammock was seriously injured early Tuesday when a chimney collapsed and landed on top of her.

The Boston Fire Department says they were told two people were in the hammock on the roof of the North End building when it collapsed.

The hammock was attached to the chimney when it somehow collapsed.

The Boston Fire Department used a ladder from one of its trucks to lower the woman to the ground to take her to a hospital.

“She was treated by our EMT’s and paramedics on the roof,” Ed Hassan, of Boston EMS, said. “We worked together with the fire department and was able to get her down to the street level for us, and she’s being transferred to the hospital with serious injuries.”

Information about her injuries has not yet been released.
