CHELSEA, Mass. — Dozens of people were without power Wednesday morning after a tractor-trailer hit a transformer and several parked cars in Chelsea.

The crash happened around 1 a.m. on Library Street. According to Chief Brian Keyes, the driver struck three parked cars, two fire hydrants and a pole, which caused a transformer fire. The fire knocked out power to about 50 people on the street.

"I woke up and I heard a big boom. Then I saw the truck turn and then I laid back down and got back up and I saw people chase the guy down the street," said one neighbor.

"We were sleeping and we heard an explosion," said Yanderi Nunez, who lives on the street.

Nunez says she and her 4-year-old daughter were sleeping when the crash happened. She said the bed she shares with her daughter is just feet from the damaged transformer that caught fire.

"It was just like the rush of it happening so suddenly in the middle of the night," she said.

The driver involved, 46-year-old Douglas McClellan, was arrested on drunk driving charges. First responders said they would likely have to dismantle the truck before towing it from the scene.

McClellan was arraigned in court for an OUI charge and leaving the scene of a crash.

His attorney told the court the Ohio man has a clean driving record and no prior offenses.
