MENDON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Cheerleaders from the Nipmuc Regional High School in Upton will not be cheering at a planned pep rally on Wednesday due to an underage drinking incident that occurred at a Mendon residence.
Bill Ambrosino and his family hosted a sleepover for the team, which includes his daughter, on Friday. There were approximately 12 teens in the home that night, as well as several adults; however, no one was aware the girls were drinking in the finished basement until one of the girls got sick.
Ambrosino says he called for an ambulance out of an abundance of caution.
According to Ambrosino, one of the girls brought a bottle of vodka to the party, and the rest of the alcohol came from a cooler he had forgotten about for months.
The police officer who investigated the incident told FOX 25 that there is no evidence to indicate that the adults at the home had any knowledge of the drinking, and that the homeowner did the right thing by calling 911.
The superintendent of schools for the district says the cheerleaders involved are subject to the Massachusetts Interscholastic Chemical Policy, and thus, are barred from cheering at the end of the season, as well as the beginning of next.
