Charges dropped against man wearing replica ammunition on bus

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Charges have been dropped against a man who was arrested while wearing a belt with replica ammunition.

The man was arrested Friday afternoon after he got on an MBTA bus in Brighton wearing the belt. Several passengers called 911 because they believed the bullets were real.

According to police, the driver pulled over in the area of Harvard Street and Cambridge Street because passengers were panicking, worried the man might pull out a gun.

The man was arrested around 4:30 p.m. Officers found his belt was made of 69 replica bullets. He was also described as wearing spiked fighting gloves and spiked leather bracelets.

He was originally charged with unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawfully carrying dangerous weapons, and disorderly conduct; but when he appeared in court those charges were dropped.

“Based on the totality of circumstances, however, including confirmation that the cartridges on said belt could not and weren't intended to be fired, prosecutors dismissed the charges at arraignment in Brighton Municipal Court,” the Suffolk County District Attorney said.
