BOSTON — A man was pulled from Fort Point Channel early Wednesday morning after crashing a stolen taxi and then jumping into the channel, police said.
William Thoresen, 29, was held on $10,000 cash bail after his arrest. He was sent to Bridgewater State Hospital for evaluation.
arrested and charged with carjacking, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, breaking and entering, destruction of property and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.
His attorney said Wednesday Thoresen was in distress and has had a drug problem for several years.
The taxi, police said, had been hijacked from its driver after Thoreson had broken into a building on South Street and sprayed a fire extinguisher everywhere.
Thoreson was sent to the hospital after he was pulled from the channel. The other taxi driver, who had been hit by the car after it was stolen, declined medical attention.
Thoreson is due back in court on Dec. 24.
