CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Changes are coming to the Inman Square intersection in Cambridge after two cyclists were killed earlier this year.

Three left turns that were previously legal are no longer allowed.

Starting Thursday, you CANNNOT TURN LEFT:

- From Hampshire Street southbound to Cambridge Street eastbound
- Northbound on Hampshire Street toward Cambridge Street westbound
- Westbound on Cambridge Street to Antrim Street southbound

Cyclists have been calling for changes after two deaths in the last six months.

In April, 27-year-old Amanda Phillips was hit and killed by a truck in the Inman Square intersection. Just last month, a few blocks away, 60-year-old Bernard Lavins was hit and killed near Porter Square.

The ares is a dangerous but popular route for cyclists.

According to MassDOT, there were 263 reported bicycle crashes near Inman Square between 2005-2014; 162 of those crashes involved injuries.

The city, as well as Cambridge, is going to study the impact of these changes in the next couple of months. They'll also look at how the changes impact nearby intersections.
