BOSTON — The Catholic Memorial basketball team is playing in the MIAA Division 1 semifinal game Monday night at TD Garden, but they'll have to do it without the support of the student body.

Dozens of Catholic Memorial students attending Friday's game against Newton North High School were overheard yelling, "You killed Jesus" to Newton North fans.

"There are no excuses for the actions of the student-spectators who took part in the chanting, their behavior was appalling; their actions and words do not align with the teachings or the value system of our school or the Catholic Church.," the school said in a statement.

After Friday night's incident, the Catholic Memorial administration told students they are not allowed to attend Monday's divisional championship game against Cambridge Rindge and Latin School at TD Garden.

Catholic Memorial says it is using the incident as a "teaching opportunity to help students understand the gravity of their actions." They are holding assemblies at each grade level Monday to address the incident.

“We will also strengthen and enhance our curriculum to better educate our students on the subjects of intolerance and bigotry.  Student behavior and leadership responsibilities will be included as part of a revised curriculum.  These next steps will be made with a great deal of deliberation, thought and input from the Jewish community and the Archdiocese of Boston,” President Peter Folan said.

The Anti-Defamation League New England told FOX25 it is closely working with all parties involved.
