CARVER, Mass. — A fight is shaping up in the quiet, rural town of Carver.
The town is slowly revealing plans to build a 1.2 million square foot distribution center along Route 44.
The project may require the town taking a number of properties and some homes, and concerned residents contacted FOX25 for help.
Rick Jackson is in quite a predicament. His home is in Plympton, but his backyard is in Carver.
The area is so attractive because it is right off Route 44, which connects to other major highways.
If the plan moves forward, most of Jackson’s yard would be taken through eminent domain to make room for one of the warehouses and roads for the trucks.
"Which actually leaves us with very little land so we wouldn't have a backyard anymore. They want to put one of the warehouses directly in the backyard," Jackson's wife Melissa Singletary told FOX25.
The town of Carver said they may also have to take several homes where people are currently living.
The town administration provided a new proposal to FOX25 Friday showing a new design where the trucks may run on roads around the three homes in question, but it would still have to take some properties. The exact number has not been nailed down.
Officials also told FOX25 that most of the land for the project is already blighted.
"This is the primary area where you want some sort of development that will provide tax revenue and job generation to carver residents and the area as a whole," Carver town administrator Michael Milanoski said.
