CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Cambridge's mayor witnessed a person get hit by a car while taking his children to school Thursday morning.
Mayor Marc McGovern posted on Facebook, "…a car pulled up beside us at a stop sign, barely stopped and then sped through the intersection. The next thing I see is a pedestrian flying in the air, over the roof of the car."
The driver did stop and cooperated with police.
Cambridge Police spokesperson Jeremy Warnick told Boston 25 News a man was hit by a Honda Civic while trying to cross Franklin Street just after 8:30 a.m.
The pedestrian, a 27-year-old Cambridge man, was evaluated at the scene, but refused to be taken to a hospital, according to Warnick.
Warnick said both the driver and witnesses, including McGovern, said the pedestrian wasn't in a crosswalk at the time of the crash.
Police didn't cite the driver.
McGovern ended his Facebook post with this message: "Unless you are driving to the ER because you've been shot, SLOW DOWN."
