A fiberglass rabbit is at the center of a town dispute in Dedham.
The 400-pound statue was placed near the veteran's memorial in Oakdale Common. Local veterans are angry about the rabbit's location and now they want it moved.
Those associated with the Dedham Public Art Project, which was charged with placing 15 rabbits throughout Dedham, appeared before the town selectmen to discuss their placement in May. During that time, Oakdale Common was not mentioned. The group later received permission from Parks and Recreations to place a rabbit in the square.
The rabbit has been dedicated to a veteran and Dedham resident, Joe Pagliuca, who passed away this past winter.
Veterans are disappointed that no veteran organization was notified or asked about the rabbit's placement. They want the sculpture removed before the town's annual Flag Day parade on Thursday night.
