BOSTON — Transportation officials say the next three weeks could be “hellish” for commuters near the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge as construction for the dreaded project to replace it began Wednesday night.
And it’s going to be a mess for everybody.
The massive construction project is interrupting the Green Line between Babcock Street and Blanford Street, so commuters on the B Branch will have to hop off the train and ride a shuttle bus to the next stop.
Heavy delays are expected and the project is going to cause plenty of headaches for the next three weeks.
Commonwealth Avenue will be closed to drivers from Packards Corner to Kenmore Square. The BU Bridge is also closed off.
Wednesday night crews were spotted dropping cones along the street, and detour signs have been posted.
Pedestrians, mostly Boston University students, will have it easier, but some cyclists will ride new routes.
