BU student killed in Mexico City robbery

MEXICO CITY (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A student from Boston University's Class of 2017 died during spring break last week after a robbery in Mexico City.

BU Today reports Diego Fernandez Montes was back home in Mexico City last Thursday when he was killed in a taxi.

Montes' funeral was held Sunday. Family and friends, including classmates from BU, were in attendance.

The college freshman was planning to major in economics and math. He served as treasurer of his residence hall association and was a member of a Mexican student group on campus. Family members tell BU Today Montes planned to return to Mexico after graduation to address the nation's social woes.
