WORCESTER, Mass. — Two brothers who were beaten by police outside of a Worcester strip club will appear in court on several charges, including assault and battery on a police officer.

The incident happened early Sunday morning outside of the Riviera Show Club on Southbridge Street.

Police say 23-year-old Mitchell Lugo of Worcester and 27-year-old Zachary Lugo of Rutland were involved in a fight outside of the club. When officers tried to calm them down and get them to leave the area, police say the men grew combative with the officers. The men continued yelling at the individuals they say started the fight.

One officer struggled to arrest Mitchell, who had had the officer in a headlock. When he finally got Mitchell to the ground, Mitchell allegedly tried to grab the officer by the neck and the officer began punching him.

At that point, officers tried to arrest Zachary, who fought back until he was finally taken down. The brothers continued to fight back, attempting to grab the officer's duty belt, yelling profanities, kicking and threatening the officers. Police say they also began calling an Asian-American officer racial slurs and saying that they knew people who would kill his family for them.

A video surfaced on Facebook of the officers struggling to subdue the brothers by throwing punches after the men were resisting. Police say their use of force was warranted, but now a full investigation is underway.

Police say there had been multiple incidents throughout the night involving the two men.

Mitchell Lugo is charged with trespassing, resisting arrest, disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, civil rights violation, and assault and battery on a police officer.

Zachary Lugo is charged with trespassing, resisting arrest, disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, attempt to disarm a police officer, and assault and battery on a police officer.

Both men are set to be arraigned on Tuesday.
