BOSTON — Boston Police met with concerned residents after a shooting in Dorchester left one person dead and three others injured.

As police swarmed the Dorchester neighborhood Wednesday night, neighbors were caught off guard.

"I'm totally surprised. I just got home and saw police cars," said neighbor Jason Ng.

Jason was among a few dozen people who filled St. Mary's Church Thursday, concerned about the recent uptick in violence.

"I think everyone is a little shaken. There have been a couple of incidents in the last week with gun violence here," said neighbor Olivia Dang.

Two days before Wednesday's shooting Olivia Dang says a car was shot up. Police are investigating to see if there is a connection.

Roland Freeman believes neighbors need to help each other, and police.

"I've lived on Cushing Avenue for 26 years," said Freeman. "Somebody knows what's going on there."

Earlier, at a nearby rally to honor the memory of 15-year-old Louis Brown, who was killed in the crossfire of a 1993 shootout, his peace activist mother lamented another homicide.

"Yet another family faces the murder of their loved one. And three other lives are changed forever and another community is traumatized," said Tiny Cherry.

The councilor who organized Thursday's meeting says residents are worried about retaliation and everyone's safety.

No arrests have been made in Wednesday's shooting.
