Boxford community rallies around former firefighter who lost house to fire

BOXFORD, Mass. — The community is rallying around a former Boxford firefighter and his family after they lost their home to fire this week.

Boxford Fire Chief Brian Geiger said in a Facebook post on Friday that Scott Stickney worked for the Boxford Fire Department for 15 years. Stickney's home went up in flames on lost his home Wednesday night. The family's two dogs died in the blaze.

"As you read this post, remember that for 15 years Scott left his family to go support yours," Geiger said in the post. "He responded to medical aids, car accidents and yes, plenty of fires. Also, you might find it interesting to know that Scott is the son of Kerry Stickney who is a former Fire Chief and served the Town for over 40 years."

Stickney's mother, Judy Stickney, also worked for the town in various roles, Geiger said.

"Boxford is a great community and comes together to support each other better than any other community we know. Boxford has always supported public safety and I am hoping to see that support today," Geiger said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Stickney's family. The page had raised $8,540 as of 10 p.m. Friday.
