BOSTON — Some calendar changes may be coming to schools in Boston.

The Boston Globe reports that Superintendent Tommy Chang wants to start classes before Labor Day.

He's also considering getting rid of February vacation so winter break can be longer.

He says this will allow students to spend more time visiting family members who live far away.

According to Globe, absences during the week right after winter break have gone up over the past three years.

If approved, these changes will go into effect in 2017.
