Boston salon owner featured on hair and makeup competition show

BOSTON — South Boston salon owner Sandy Poirier will compete on Lifetime’s new reality series American Beauty Star, which pits hair and makeup artists against each other for a chance to win big bucks and big opportunities.

The show, hosted by Adriana Lima, premieres on Thursday night. Twelve competitors will face off over ten episodes for the chance to win $50,000 and a spot on the beauty team for a Tern Vogue editorial spread, along other sponsorships and gifts. Contestants range from leading beauty industry hair and makeup artists to YouTube and Instagram stars.

Poirier, a Providence native, opened Shag Salon thirteen years ago after years of working on Newbury Street. His edgy style, in-tune approach to social media, and artistic cuts define his salon as one of the most cutting edge in Boston.

On repping his city on national television, Poirier says, “A lot of cool people are from Boston. From Aerosmith and Joey Mcintyre, the Wahlberg's, it’s a cool creative and place to make a name for yourself and I hope to keep the streak alive.”
