BOSTON — Boston Children’s Museum announced on Sunday that it will close its doors temporarily in response to the current resurgence in COVID-19 cases across the state, according to the museum.
The museum wants to ensure the continued well-being of its “relatively small staff along with the continued safety of visitors during the holidays,” the museum said.
It will voluntarily close to the public on Dec. 14 through Jan. 7. All advance ticket purchases affected by the temporary closure will be refunded, it said.
“While disheartening during this time when the Museum normally welcomes thousands of children to enjoy festive exhibits and programs, we are confident that this step is in the best interest of our staff and visitors,” said Carole Charnow, President & CEO.
Since the museum re-opened in July it has had zero museum-based COVID-19 transmission, the museum said. Similar as to when it closed earlier this year, the museum said it is not closing the building or shutting down museum operations.
“Museum business will continue with staff working remotely and some socially distanced in the building,” the museum said.
Staff will work on virtual programming, grant-based project work and staying connected with community endeavors the museum is a part of during the closure.
The museum will update any changes to its reopening plans on its website and social media platforms, it said.
